Irene Schoephoester Westover

Irene Shirley (nee Schweder) Schoephoester Westover, age 98, of Markesan, WI, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Markesan Resident Home.
Irene was born on July 1, 1917, in Markesan, WI, the daughter of Frank and Eva (Malitzka) Schweder. Irene was employed most of her life as an accountant, secretary and executive secretary. She retired from Two Rivers, WI Hospital where she worked in administration offices.
In 1935, Irene married LeRoy A. Schoephoester of Markesan. They had three children; Shirley, Ron and Richard. LeRoy served as Markesan Police Chief. He passed away in 1958, at which time he had been serving as a Green Lake County police officer. In 1965, Irene married Vayne S. Westover and the couple moved to Two Rivers, returning to Markesan in 1986, upon retirement. Vayne passed away in 1992. Irene has been a resident of the Markesan Home for 18 years.
Irene is survived by her children, Shirley (Duane) Nelson of Rio, WI, Ron (Karen) Schoephoester of Prairie Du Sac, WI and Richard (Ardell) Schoephoester of Green Lake, WI; her step-sons, Tom (Ginny) Westover of Seattle, WA, William (Ruth) Westover of Texas. She was proud and delighted in her grandchildren, Eric (Kenda) Nelson, Lori (fiancé, Keith Gilbertson) Thompson, Peter (Kathryn) Schoephoester, Jason (Cat) Schoephoester and her great-grandchildren, Kashden Nelson, Trevor and Laci Kelley, Noah and Matthew Schoephoester and Hisa Schoephoester. She is further survived by her brother, Norman (Lucille) Schweder; sisters-in-law, Mabel Schweder, Delores Schweder, Hazel Schoephoester and her former daughter-in-law, Sally (Tom) Grothe of California. Children of Tom and Wm Westover and their children also survive. Irene is an aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eva; husbands, LeRoy and Vayne; brothers, Henry and Howard Schultz, Orrin, Glenn, Merrill, Keith and Palmer Schweder and her sisters, Esther Weiland, Ruth Keene, Dorothy Fogtman, Olive Embs, Violet Barlow and Elaine Wilde.
Visitation for Irene will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, from 10 – 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 65 W. Catherine St., Markesan, WI 53946.
Funeral Service for Irene will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan. Pastor Jason Jobs will officiate. Interment will follow at Markesan Memorial Cemetery in Markesan. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 65 W. Catherine St., Markesan, WI 53946.
