Irene Springborfl Thorndike, of Ripon, passed away May 15, 1999 at Park View Care Center, Buffalo, MN. She was born May 19, 1909 in the Township of Ripon, to Albert and Amelia (Huth) Springborn. She graduated from Ripon High School and attended Oshkosh Business College.
She was employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., selling contracts at the beginning of the telephone era. In 1936, she married Harold W. Thorndike and he preceded her in death in 1983, after 47 years of mariage.
Irene was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ and the Womens Guild her entire life. She was known for her love of flowers, gardening and animals, and was a self-proclaimed historian of the Ripon area.
She leaves to mourn 2 daughters, Linda Thorndike Love of Milwaukee and Barbara Thorndike-Gensmer of Edina, MN; 3 grandchildren, Katrina Radke of San Francisco, CA, Gregory J. Radke of New York, NY and Earl A. Radke of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her sister, Adelaine Cluppert, her husband, Harold Thorndike, and her parents.
Funeral services will be 2 PM on Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at Our Saviours United Church of Christ with the Reverend James D. Mohr officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service in the chapel. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery,
Ripon.
