Irma Pretz

Irma Mae Pretz, age 82, formerly of 306 Washington St, Fairwater, died Wednesday afternoon, May 29, 2002, at the Markesan Resident Home in Markesan.

She was born May 16, 1920, in Rosendale, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Rupnow) Nitz. She attended Prairie View School through the 8th grade. Irma married Alfred Pretz on September 19, 1940, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. They lived in the Markesan area before moving to Fairwater, where they lived for over 50 years. Alfred passed away on October 27, 1994.

Irma was a housewife and mother, and worked during the summers at the canning factory in Fairwater for more then 30 years. She was a life member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, Ripon, and worked on the Election Board for the Village of Fairwater for many years. Irma was the ticket seller at the Fairwater Civic Center for many years when public wedding dances were held.

She is survived by her son, Steven Pretz and special family friend, Doug Huss; 3 sisters, Eunice Salzwedel of Markesan, Doris Zastrow and Viola (Floyd) Fenske, all of Manchester; and 4 sisters-in-law, Myra Nitz of Green Lake, Adeline Nitz and Mildred Nitz, both of Markesan, and Emma Nitz of Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers, Wilber, Herbert, Elmer and Harold Nitz, along with infant brother, George who died at birth; and 3 brothers-in-law, Ralph Salzwedel, Edward Kwiatkowski, and Walter Zastrow.

Funeral service for Irma M. Pretz will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, Ripon with the Rev. Rebecca A. Johnston officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in the Fairwater Cemetery, Fairwater. A memorial has been established.
