Iva Naomi Kono, age 93, of Ripon, died Thursday morning, August 16, 2001, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon where she had lived the past 4 years.
She was born February 1, 1908, in Fairwater, a daughter to Frank and Emma (Umbreit) Mielkie. She attended Ripon Public Schools and graduated from Ripon College. On July 13, 1940, she married Arthur C. Kono, and he preceded her in death on August 15, 1970. lva had been a bookkeeper at Wisconsin Public Service in Wausau, and later a bookkeeper for 13 years at Speed Queen until her retirement. Mrs. Kono was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and belonged to the Mary Martha Circle. She also was a member of the Womens Christian Temperance Union, American Association of Retired Persons and the Rosendale Grange. Until she had a stroke 6 months ago, Iva had been very involved in all the activities available at Parkview Care Center, and once a month her church circle held their monthly meeting at Parkview.
Survivors include 2 sons, Jerry and Tom (Gerri) Kono, both of Ripon; 4 grandchildren, Cheryl (Steve) Wunder of Fond du Lac, Brian (Angel) Kono of Westland, Ml,Cory (Sherry) Kono of Ripon and Scott Kono of Markesan; 9 great-grandchildren; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and 2 sisters.
Funeral service for Iva N. Kono will be 11 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2001, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon with Rev. David Busker officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Ripon. Memorial contributions should be given to the Mission Fund of Immanuel Church.
