J. Gordon Thiel

J. Gordon Thiel, age 79, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 1992 at Ripon Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 30, 1912, in Ripon to the late Alfred and Mae (Curtis) Thiel. He served in the Army during World War II. On August 22, 1942, he married Isabel Jeske in Ripon. He was educated in Ripon and had lived in the Ripon area all his life. Gordon was an accountant at Speed Queen in Ripon for 48 years. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon, past member of the Church Council and member of the church Men’s Club. He was Mayor in the City of Ripon from 1960 until 1962, and was a former alderman. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, past Commander of the American Legion and former Little League Coach.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel; three sons, Gary (Diane) Thiel of New Holstein, Richard Thiel of Ripon, and David (Teresa) Thiel of Fond du Lac; and two grandchildren, Michael and Karen. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services for J. Gordon Thiel will be held Saturday, June 13, 1992 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon. The Reverend Robert B. LeCount will officiate. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Princeton. Family and friends may call Friday, June 12, 1992, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marcant Funeral Home, Ripon where a Legion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by a V.F.W. Service at 7:45 p.m. A memorial has been established in his name for the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
