James W. Davis, 76, formerly of Ripon, passed away Tuesday morning, September 28, 2004, at the Markesan Resident Home in Markesan.
He was born July 30, 1928, in Ripon, a son to William Guy and Lutzie Lu (Menning) Davis. Jim graduated from Ripon High School and the UW-Madison, and served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. For many years he and his family owned and operated the Davis Super Market in Ripon. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Ripon. Jim loved nature, animals, walking, being outdoors, and riding his bike over 5,000 miles every summer.
Survivors include his children, Brian (Diana) Davis of Ripon, Lynn (Rodney) McDonald and their son, Jacob of Ripon and Ann Prelwitz of Green Lake, and their mother Arlene Davis of Ripon; 2 brothers, Raymond Davis of Ripon and Robert (Eileen) Davis of AZ; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2004, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home. The Reverend Jack W. Kraaz will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon. Memorials may be given in his name to the South Woods Park Association.
