James Hanback

James M. Hanback, age 82, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Milwaukee after a lengthy stay.

He was born July 29, 1932, in Warrenton, VA, the son of the late Albert and Katherine (Harrell) Hanback. On March 2, 1957, James married Geraldine Rose in Fort Benning, GA. He honorably served his country for 29 years in the United States Army. Upon his retirement from the Army, he settled in Ripon and was employed by Speed Queen until his second retirement. Upon which, he and his wife established a ceramic shop and enjoyed their time together making new friendships and helping people find their creative side.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Geraldine “Gerry” Venita Hanback of Ripon, WI; two sons, Pastor James Douglas (Jana) Hanback of New Hartford, NY and Jeffery A. Hanback of Ripon, WI; daughter, Pamela K. Swanke of Ripon, WI; 8 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. James is further survived by many nieces and nephews. James is preceded in death by four children in infancy; his parents, Albert and Katherine Hanback; sister, Frances Cooke and three brothers, Heywood, Roscoe and Donald.

Visitation for James will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014, from 10 – 12:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.

Funeral service for James will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 12:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Reverend Joshua J. Sherman will officiate. A private family interment will take place at Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in King, WI on Friday, October 17, 2014.
