James Mijatovich

January 5, 1921 — July 27, 1996

James (Steve) Mijatovich passed away Saturday July 27, 1996, at his home with his family around him. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 5, 1921, to James and Mary Pirkov Mijatovich. He moved to Wisconsin with his parents when he was a baby. On June 16, 1942, he married Phyllis Hughes. They made their home in Ripon until 1970. At that time they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1990, they moved back to Ripon to be near their family. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis, Ripon, one daughter Diane Splittgaber of Fond du Lac, one son Jim (Ann)
Mijatovich of Green Lake; grandchildren Gary (Nicole) Splittgaber of St. Petersburg, Florida, Julie (Dave) Pischke of Ripon, Sarah (Matt) Willett of Princeton and Nick Mijatovich, Green Lake; great grandchildren, Dereck Splittgaber of St. Petersburg, Florida and Tyler and Bryce Pischke of Ripon. He is further survived by one special Aunt and Uncle, Agnes and Blackie Edwards of Fond du Lac and one brother-in-law, Tom Hughes of Milwaukee besides many other loving relatives and friends.
Steve graduated from Ripon High School in 1939, and attended Ripon College for 3 years at which time he entered the U.S. Army. He served his country in WW II in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroic Achievement in the Philippine Islands. He has worked at Rockwell International in Oshkosh and at Speed Queen in Ripon. The last several years were spent working at Lawsonia Golf Course as a course ranger.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake, WI. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM Tuesday until the hour of the memorial Mass at the church. He will be cremated with private family interment at a later date.
Steve especially enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice would be appreciated.
