Jerald "Jerry" Smits

Jerald “Jerry” Gordon Smits, age 46, of Pickett, died on September 2, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, after a battle with cancer.
Jerry was born in Waupun on November 26, 1961, the son of Gordon and Junice (Navis) Smits. He graduated from Waupun High School, and in 1988 he married Susan Thayer. Jerry worked at Grande Cheese for 28 years. His current position in Fond du Lac was a sanitation supervisor. Jerry loved spending time with his family, and watching his daughters play sports. He loved his many dogs and was an avid hunter, and Green Bay Packer fan, and was a past member of the Fond du Lac Corvette Club.
Survivors include his wife Sue “Susie” Smits of Pickett; two daughters, Shannon Smits and her son Gavyn Alvarado, both of Ripon, and Skylar Smits of Pickett; one brother, Robert Smits and his family of Waupun; two sisters, Darlene (Charles) Westphal of Byron, WI, and their children, Dustin (Tammy) Westphal of Byron, Nicole (Peter) Schlueter of Boston, MA, Eric (Brandy) Westphal of Byron, and David Westphal of Green Bay; Sheryl Rechek of Waupun, and her children, Jim and Adam also of Waupun, and Jason Rechek of Ripon; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Thayer of Oshkosh; brothers-in-law, Ron (Maureen) Thayer of Pickett, and their children, Katie & Daniel Thayer of Pickett, Christie Thayer of Oshkosh, Jeff (Jamie) Thayer of Bellingham, WA, and their children, Lindsay Thayer of Florida, and Alaina Thayer of Bellingham, WA, and Brad (Toni) Thayer of Ripon; and Stuart (Sue) Thayer of Pickett, and their children, Jessie (Rob) Strange of Oshkosh, and Allie and Lucas Thayer of Pickett. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Jerry Smits will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. And again on Monday, September 8, 2008 from 11:00 to 12:00 noon at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Blossom St. in Ripon.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, September 8, 2008 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Blossom St. in Ripon, with the Reverend Robert A. Fictum officiating. Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery, Town of Rosendale. A memorial has been established.
