Jess W. Laper, age 63, of Fairwater, WI, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 1956, at his home.
Jess was born May 15, 1892, in the Town of Green Lake, WI, the son of John and Mary (Ott) Laper. On December 24, 1917, he married Nellie G. Abercrombie in Fairwater. Jess worked at Laper Milling and Supply Company, The Laper Milling Company of Kingston, Oxford Power and Light Company and Kiddie Kookies. He was a member of Brandon Kiwanis Club, a life long member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was active in the Church Brotherhood. Jess helped organize the Brandon Fairwater and Alto Telephone Company and was president from 1933 to 1953. Jess pioneered the first electric generating and distributing system in south western Fond du Lac County. From 1914, he was Trustee and from 1934 to 1947, Jess was president of the Village of Fairwater.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie; one daughter, Mrs. Frederick Butzin of Ripon; one son, Florian of Fairwater; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. P.H. Sommers of Fairwater and Mrs. Gordon Hamley of Brandon and one brother, John O. Laper of Markesan.
Friends may call on Friday, January 27, 1956, after 6:00 pm at Butzin Funeral Home in Ripon.
Funeral Service for Jess will be held Sunday, January 29, 1956, at 2:30 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater with The Reverend Peter Buenting officiating. Interment will take place at Fairwater Cemetery in the Village of Fairwater.
