John E. Berndt, age 79, of Alto, WI, passed away on Friday, August 14, 1987, at Ripon Memorial Hospital.
John was born March 18, 1908, in Green Lake County, WI, the son of Gustave and Anna (Garbrecht) Berndt. He was educated in Green Lake County Schools. On November 6, 1929, John married Edna Schmuhl in Fairwater. He worked as a farmer and was a custodian at Nortons in Green Lake for 13 years. John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater.
Survivors include his wife, Edna; two daughters, Joan Brown of LaCrosse and Janet (Allan) Brooks of Markesan; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one brother, Herbert Berndt of Markesan and one sister, Dorothy Buraczewski of Minoqua.
Visitation for John will be held on Monday, August 17, 1987, from 4 – 8:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
Funeral Service for John will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 1987, at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater with Reverend Albert Grender officiating. Interment will follow at Fairwater Cemetery in the Village of Fairwater. A memorial has been established for the church.
