John Edgar Bumby, age 77, of Ripon, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Ripon, WI.
He was born August 17, 1920, in Ripon, a son to the late Horace A. and Merle (Hockenbery) Bumby. He received 9 years of education in the Ripon Schools and 3 years at St. Johns Military Academy. He attended the UW-Madison prior to serving in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943-1 945. During his time in the military he served in the 4th Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations. On January 25, 1980, he married Elizabeth Meinke. John was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon,Veterans of Foreign Wars Schultz-Klemp-Wentland Post #5278, Noon Kiwanis and Ducks Unlimited. He was the past President & CEO of Ripon Foods and Ripon Trucking, and served on the Board of Directors of Ripon Foods, Ripon Trucking, Admanco, Montello Products, Heritage Wafers Ltd. and M&l Central State Bank. John also enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and golfing.
John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; 3 sons; Jeff Bumby of Ripon and his children, Edward S. Bumby, Elizabeth Bumby, Katherine (Jeff) Radi and Emma Sacerdote, Edward (Jayne) Bumby of Lake Arrowhead, CA and their children, Christopher Bumby, Margaret Bumby, Sarah Bumby, Ann Bumby and Emily Bumby, and William (Janet) Bumby of Madison and their daughter, Caitlin Bumby, 1 daughter, Sarah (Ralph) Colonna of St. Helena, CA and their son, Adam Podalski; and I sister, Ann B. Fallon of Tuscon, AZ. He is further survived by Shirley B. Sather of Ripon, the mother of his children; 1 step-daughter, Deborah (Steve) Erickson of Madison and their children, Lindsey and Elizabeth Erickson; 1 step-son, Douglas (Susan) Peppler of Ripon and their children, Shea and Adam Peppler.
Funeral Mass for John E. Bumby will be held on Saturday, March 7, 1998, at 11:30 AM at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon with Father Kenneth Okkerse officiating. Friends may call Saturday at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Ripon. Memorials may be given in this name to St. Peters Episcopal Church,Ripon Historical Society or to any other charity of ones choice.
