John Callan

John Francis Callan, 68, formerly of Ripon, died Thursdays June 4. 1998, at his home in Borrego Springs, Calif.

He was born July 11, 1929, in Ripon, the son of the late Leo and Eleanor (Havey) Callan. He married Jerry Beucus at St. Patncks Church in Ripon on December 1, 1951. He belonged to St. Mary’s Springvale where he had been treasurer for many years, and to St. Richard’s parish in Borrego Springs. John graduated from Ripon High School attended U. of Wis. Oshkosh and Marian College. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served until June of 1952. He was a corpsman attached to the marines during the Korean conflict where he received a Letter of Commendation with Combat V. John was employed in the advertising field for the major part of his life. In later years he enjoyed writing. John was a past President of the Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce a member of The Chosin Few, Ripon Rotary, yEW Post 5278, Catholic Knights of Wis., BorregO Springs Civic Board American
Legion Post 853, and was active in the Performing Arts Theater in Borrego Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry, six daughters; Peggy (Ken) Shultz of Portland, Oregon Patty of Pasadena Ca, Katheryfl of Napa, Ca, Mary Shawn of Santa Rosa, Ca, Kerry (Cy) Ingraham of Chippewa Falls, WI, Shannon of Pasadena Ca: one son, Kevin of Long Beach
Ca. and three grandchildren Jennifer Cauan Shultz, Michael Callan Shultz, and Cyrus W. Ingraham IV.
A celebration of his life with a Mass of Christian burial
will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s
Springvale with the Rev. Russan Cole officiating. A VFW
service will be held prior to the burial at St. Mary’s
Springvale Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to
the 11 am. service at the church. A memorial fund has
been established for St. Mary’s Church Springvale/ St.
Mary’s Cemetery, and the American Cancer Society.
Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home is assisting with
Arrangements.
