John J. Murphy Sr., 79, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at home.
John was born in Milwaukee, WI on April 9, 1944, son of John and Ruth (Bemis) Murphy. He graduated from Goodrich High School. In 1964 John married Joleen Treptow in Fond du Lac, WI. They would have been together for 60 years on February 8, 2024. Together they owned the Ripon Office and School Supply in 1980. After being bought out by Scharpf’s Office Supply in 1990, he finished out his career with them in 2008.
John was a man of many interests. He enjoyed camping, bowling, cards, gardening, hunting, making wine, canning, reading, and most importantly, playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John is survived by his loving wife, Joleen Murphy; children, Gerrilynn (Rolland) Peabody of Ripon, WI, John Murphy, Jr. of Oshkosh, WI, Mike (Patty) Murphy of South Weber, UT, Patrick (Trixie) Murphy of Onalaska, WI; grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, Kelsey (Rory) Giles, Jackson, Kaitlyn, Austin, Carson, Jessica, Tyson, and McKenna; great-grandchildren, Brynley and Lyla; two sisters, Colleen Schmitt and Diane Murphy; and a brother, Dan Murphy. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Murphy; brother, Dale Murphy, and 4 brothers-in-law.
Visitation for John will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 am on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 228 Blossom St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral Mass for John will be held at 11:00 am immediately following visitation, with Rev. Robert A. Fictum officiating. You may view a livestream of the mass at 11:00 am by visiting www.facebook.com/stcatherineripon.
Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery at a later date. A memorial is being established in his name.
