John Smoody

September 16, 1917 — January 23, 2008

John Edward Smoody, 90, of Ladysmith, died Jan. 23, 2008, at Ladysmith Nursing Home from complications of pneumonia.

John was born on Sept. 16, 1917, in Green Lake, WI, the son of John and Rose Smoody. In 1944, he married Margaret Keinert in Milwaukee. John was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses who looked forward to God’s promise of a resurrection in a paradise-earth where peace and righteousness will dwell.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; son, Dennis (Janice) Smoody of Milwaukee; daughter, Diane (Gregg) Disterle of Haines City, FL; three grandchildren, Robert (Cari) Kerl, Matthew (Jennifer) Smoody, and Michael Smoody; two great-granddaughters, Sidney and Macy Kerl; sister, Mary Rector of Berlin, WI.; sister-in-law, Gertrude Smoody of Berlin; and many nieces, nephews and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Smoody; six brothers; four sisters; and by twin granddaughters, Laura and Sara Smoody.

Visitation for John Edward Smoody will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, WI.

Funeral services for John Edward Smoody will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon with Minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses Earl Soviak officiating. Interment will follow in Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake, WI.

Memorial service for John Edward Smoody will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, W7933 Edgewood Ave., Ladysmith, WI.
