John Wickstrom

John R. Wickstrom, 57, of Ripon, WI, died on March 23, 2001, at Ripon Medical Center.

John was born August 17, 1943, in Ladysmith, WI, a son to Erwin and Kathryn (Speidel) Wickstrom. On June 22, 1968, he married Joanne Anderegg. He studied at U.W. Stevens Point, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from U.W. Eau Claire. He then was employed as a Social Studies teacher in Ripon schools for 34 years. John coached High School football and basketball, both in boys and girls programs at Ripon High School. He also was assistant women’s basketball coach at Ripon College and coached for Milwaukee Bucks summer youth camps for 25 years. John was a member of Immanuel United Methodist church, Ripon, the REA, WEA, NEA and was listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne; one son, Jason of Ripon; one daughter, Jill of Sussex, WI; his mother, Kathryn Wickstrom of Ladysmith, WI; uncles and aunts, Burney (Vel) Wickstrom and Richard (Dorothy) Speidel. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his father, one child, James Michael and one infant sister, Mary Christine.

Services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at 11:00 am with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 am before the time of service at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon with Reverend David A. Busker officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 27 from 4 – 8:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
