Ripon

Judith “Judy” Ann Lyons, age 81, of Ripon, WI passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Judy was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 5, 1942, daughter of Willard and Albena Eickstaedt and the youngest child of the family. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a degree in Anthropology. It was there she met Richard Lyons, married and had two children, Megan and Saul. They divorced in 1974, but remained friendly and co-parented their children amicably. Judy worked for many years in advocacy for the elderly in social work as her main career focus.

In 1979, Judy met John Diedrich and they started their enduring adventure and partnership of over 45 years, raising their combined four children and traveling all over the world. Judy was very adept in business and helped with John’s for many years. They were very involved in their community and known for hosting great parties at their home. They regularly traveled to Mexico and Judy always brought a suitcase full of shoes to give to the children there and Milk Bones for the stray dogs. Besides donating to charities she believed in, she always thought of ways she could help.

Judy was an avid knitter, weaver and artist. She created incredibly complicated and beautiful pieces. She loved cooking and collected cookbooks from all over the world. She cared about art, politics, science and nature. She always had animals that she watched over, whether her own dogs and cats, strays and wildlife she would save, or deer she would feed.

Judy is survived by life partner, John Diedrich; daughter, Megan (Neil) Freedman; son, Saul (Keith) Lyons; two beautiful grandchildren who she adored and spoiled; stepchildren, Drew (Lisa) Diedrich, and Stacy (Boyte) Diedrich; as well as her sister, Marlene (Dan) Krause; and many other close relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Albena Eickstaedt; and her brother, Gerald Eickstaedt.

In lieu of flowers or other offerings, please make a donation to the Green Lake Animal Shelter, PO Box 86, Green Lake, WI 54941, or the animal rescue of your choice in her name.

Per Judy’s wishes no services will be held.
