Judson Loomis, age 87, of Appleton, WI, formerly of Ripon, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield, WI.
Judson was born June 30, 1913, the son of Henry and Estella (Clark) Loomis in Champion, New York. He graduated from Carthage High School and Genessee Wesleyan Seminary in NY where he began his career as a musician. He went on to Ithaca College for his Bachelors degree and to Syracuse University for his Masters degree. On August 25, 1939, he married Edna Louise Lawrence. Judson worked as a music teacher and organist and became an Associate Professor at Towson State University in Towson, MD. He retired to Ripon and Appleton. He was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon, where he was also the organist, a member of the Appleton Rotary Club and the Grand Lodge Prairie View #95.
Survivors include his daughter, Estella (Charles) Lauter of Appleton; one granddaughter, Kristin (Tom) Lauter Passananti of Redmond, WA and one grandson, Nicholas Lauter of Madison, WI; two great-granddaughters, Joyce and Josephine Lauter Passananti of Redmond, WA; and one sister, Estella (Rupert) Waltz of Salam, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edna in 1994 and three brothers.
Funeral service for Judson will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon at 2:00 pm with Father Charles E. Cason and Father Robert J.C. Brown officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon following the service. A memorial scholarship has been established in his name.
