Judson Rikkers

June 29, 1911 — February 19, 1989

Judson J. Rikkers, 77, of 623 Illinois Ave., Green Lake, died February 19, 1989, at his home.

He was born June 29, 1911, in Waupun, to Frederick E. and May Kelley Rikkers. He married Dorothy Layton August 12, 1939.

Mr. Rikkers was a graduate of Waupun High School. In 1933, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin where he majored in economics. He was a 1937 University of Wisconsin Law School graduate. He practiced law in Waupun until 1961. He also served as Mayor of Waupun from 1941 to 1943, during which time he created and appointed the steering committee which led to the building of Waupun Memorial Hospital. In 1961, Mr. Rikkers joined Fox Valley Savings and Loan (then First Federal Savings and Loan Association) as chief executive officer. He retired on December 31, 1978, but continued as chairman of the board. He has been active in the community as past president of the Badger Council of Boy Scouts, a member of the South Hills Country Club of Fond du Lac, member of the YMCA and Community Chest in Fond du Lac and past chairman of the United Way in Fond du Lac.

Mr. Rikkers was a member of the board of directors of the Fond du Lac Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the board of governors of the State Bar Association. He served two terms on the board of directors of St. Agnes Hospital and many years on the board of the Lutheran Home of Fond du Lac.

He was a member of Kiwanis, Elks Lodge, Rotary Club of Ripon, the Masonic Lodge and the Zor Shrine. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Ripon where he served on the vestry.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Restoration Fund, Hospice Hope or a charity of your choice.

Mr. Rikkers served in the US Navy from 1943 until 1946.

There is a surgery lectureship named in honor of Judson and Dorothy Rikkers at the University of Nebraska.

Judson Rikkers is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one brother, Edward of Madison; a brother, Donald of Lake View, Arkansas; two sons, Judson Rikkers Jr. of Ripon and Dr. Layton Rikkers of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Winifred Rikkers of Madison and Diana (Mrs. Dirk) Van Pelt of Fond du Lac and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Rikkers will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, February 22, 1989, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ripon. The Reverend Robert J.C. Brown will officiate. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Oak Mound Cemetery in the Town of Alto. There will be no visitation.
