Julia Mapps

November 14, 1920 — July 1, 2004

Julia Harriett Mapps, age 83, of W1723 North St, Green Lake, passed away July 1, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, due to a serious lung infection, resulting from an earlier bout with pneumonia.

She was born November 14, 1920, in Mackinaw, IL, a daughter to Bruce and Ethel Lee (Aherns) Boucher. She attended school in Mackinaw. Julia loved sports. While in college prior to World War II, she played semi-professional basketball and softball. Then, working for the Caterpillar Company in Peoria, IL during the war, she played on the company’s basketball and softball teams. Later she graduated from Indiana University with a teaching degree in physical education.

On September 11, 1948, she married Carl H. Mapps at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, CO. The family lived on several Western ranches, where the entire family learned to ride horses and took part in ranch work. The Mapps family then moved to Iron Mountain-Kingsford, MI, where she taught elementary physical education.

Some of her retirement was spent in Colorado, where Julia and husband, Carl belonged to a runners club, and they both participated in many walk-run events. She returned, with her husband, to Green Lake in 1996, and enjoyed the Green Lake Area which she loved, and had many good friends living there. Julia was a past member the Federated Church of Green Lake.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Mapps; sons, Jeffrey of Mankato, MN, Harry of Pueblo, CO, David of Denver, CO, and Ralph of Boca Raton, FL; daughter, Sally Harmon of San Isabel, CO; 5 grandchildren; brothers, George and Lyle Boucher, both of Mackinaw, IL; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Homer and Edgar Boucher.

Per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Inurnment will be in Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake.
