Karl Ernst Butzin, age 83, formerly of Ripon, WI, died Sunday, April 21, 1996, at Venice, FL after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born January 22, 1913, in Ripon, the son of the late Frederick C. and Selma (Ernst) Butzin. He graduated from Greenbrier Military School in 1932, attended two years at Ripon College and then graduated in 1935 from the University of Minnesota School of Mortuary Science. Karl then joined his fathers business, Butzin Funeral Home of Ripon. When F.C. Butzin retired in 1946, his brother, Frederic R. Butzin joined the firm. After his brothers death in 1966, Karl continued to own and manage the funeral home until his retirement in 1975. Karl married the former Henrietta Lee in Wauwatosa in 1939. He was a member of the Ripon Congregational Church (U.C.C.), charter member of the Ripon Jaycees, charter member of the Ripon Lions Club, member of the Ripon Kiwanis Club, past president of Ripon Chamber of Commerce, past member of Ripon Masonic Lodge #95, and past member of Tuscumbia Country Club. Since 1979, Karl and Henrietta have made their home in Alameda Isles, Englewood, FL.
Karl is survived by his wife of 57 years, two sons, Lee Frederick Butzin of Chapel Hill, NC and Peter Alfred Butzin of Tallahassee, FL; and three granddaughters, Wendy Lee Moore of Richmond, VA, Charlotte Mills Butzin and Jessica Anelle Butzin, both of Tallahassee.
A memorial service for the late Karl E. Butzin will be held at the Alameda Isles Club House in Englewood, FL on Saturday, April 27, 1996 at 2 pm.
A memorial service in Ripon will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery in Ripon.
A memorial has been established for the First Congregational Church of Ripon.
