Katherine Welch

Katherine M. Welch, 74, of Ripon, died August 18, 1994, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon where she resided for a brief time.

She was born September 11, 1919, in the Town of Green Lake, the daughter of J.H. and Ida B. Timm Welch. She was educated in Ripon, LaCrosse and De Kalb. Katherine taught physical education in Marshfield and West Bend High Schools and then in Janesville Elementary School for 31 years, before retiring to the south shore of Green Lake. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon. Katherine was selected YWCA, Woman of Distinction in 1977 and served as president of Delta Psi Kappa, and a national physical education fraternity.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret (Roman) Kehl of Green Lake; nieces, Meredith J. Smith, Nola J. Draheim, Barbara A. Schneider and Susan K. Simon; nephews, Carl H. Wilke, Douglas C. Drager, Joseph Norton III, Roman T. Kehl Jr.; and a very close friend, Cynthia Viertel of Berlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George and Herbert and three sisters, Ruth, Mildred and Verna.

Memorial Service for Katherine M. Welch will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Ripon. Reverend Dean Peterson will officiate. Inurnment will be in Green Lake Center Cemetery, Town of Green Lake.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 until 8 pm Monday at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Wildlife Federation in Katherine’s name.
