Kathryn D. Whitford, age 85, of 112 Main St., Fairwater, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 7, 2005, at her residence in Fairwater.
She was born October 13, 1919, in Malta, Phillips County, Montana, a daughter to Horace O. and Mary (McCarty) Rueber. Kathryn received her BA and MA in English at Northern Illinois University where she met Philip B. Whitford, whom she married February 22, 1946. She later went on to become a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she also served as Chair of the English Department. She was preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling Clason Rueber, her husband Philip B. Whitford, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Whitford.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Mary (Tom) Montag of Fairwater; 1 son, Philip C. Whitford (fiancee Susan Dickert) of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters, Kirstina R. Whitford of Columbus, Ohio, Jenifer Montag (Terry Brown) of Dekalb, Illinois, and Jessica Montag (Tait Brink) of Missoula, Montana.
A memorial service for Kathryn D. Whitford will be held at 3 p.m. on May 28, 2006, at the Whitford Farm. Memorials in her name may be given to The Nature Conservancy or a charity of your choice.
