Kazuko Ige

May 9, 1925 — April 8, 2004

Kazuko (Kay) Ige, 78, of Princeton, WI passed away April 8, 2004, as a result of a car fatality at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center, Neenah, WI.

She was born May 9, 1925, in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Eikichi and Fujiko (Nakashima) Motooka. She graduated from high school while at Manzanar Relocation Center in California. She married Jimmy H. Ige on March 26, 1949. She worked for International Council of Religious Education in Chicago as a secretary, and also as a medical secretary for St. Lukes Presbyterian Hospital. Kay was a longtime resident of Elk Grove Village, IL prior to moving to Princeton, WI. Mrs. Ige was a member of Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church, and past member of the Elk Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy; children, Naomi Ikoma of Elk Grove Village, IL, Ruth Harrison of Roselle, IL, Daniel (Connie) Ige of Glen Ellyn, IL/Princeton, WI; grandchildren, Jennifer & Michael Ikoma, and Rachael & Jimmy Harrison; brother, Sadao Daniel (Miye) Motooka of Torrence, CA; sisters, Teruko Terri (Peter) Shizume of Hicksville, NY, and Emiko Amy Uyehara of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons-in-law, Richard Ikoma and James Harrison; sister, Yasuko Motooka.

Funeral service will be held at Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church, Markesan, WI on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 6 p.m. The Reverend Gary Zacharias will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. at the church, with a fellowship reception to follow the service. Another visitation will be Saturday, April 17, from 1-3 p.m. at which time a memorial service will be held at Elk Grove Baptist Church, Elk Grove Village, IL with Dr. Greg Gertz officiating. A fellowship reception to follow. Inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial has been established.

She was recognized for her efforts and for witnessing before Congress on the hearings of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II by the United States Department of Justice’s Office of Redress Administration in the Civil Rights Division.
