Kermit Weiske

Kermit “Doc” George Weiske, age 86, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Ripon Medical Center.
Doc was born May 18, 1929, in Montello, WI, the son of Charles and Winnifred (Eichler) Weiske. He graduated from Berlin High School in 1946, and graduated from Ripon College in 1950. Doc later received his Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin. He taught and coached at Ft. Atkinson High School from 1950 to 1958 before coming to Ripon College.
Doc was inducted into the Ripon College Hall of Fame in 1980. As a player and later as a coach, Doc Weiske was Ripon’s Mr. Basketball and his collegiate scoring record of 1,188 points stood for 28 years. Highlights of his years as Ripon’s coach (1958-66; 1972-80) include five Midwest Conference championships, two NCAA Division-III playoff appearances and a 203-148 collegiate coaching record.
He married his wife, Lois Swalm, of 64 years in 1952. He departed coaching in 1980, to focus on his growing insurance and securities business. He eventually opened the Weiske Agency. Doc was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church of Ripon. Doc was a retired member of the Board of Trustees at Ripon College, a past president and board member of the Wisconsin Golf Association and he also served as a board member at Mascoutin Golf Course. He was selected as a Charter member of the Ripon College Hall of Fame as well as a member of the Wisconsin State Basketball Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Ripon, WI; daughter, Jayne Marie Weiske of Santa Fe, NM; sons, Steven Paul Weiske of Ripon, WI, David Charles Weiske of Chicago, IL and Michael Edward Weiske of Ripon, WI; brother, Ken Weiske of Berlin, WI and sister, Karlyn (Harold) Robenson of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Suzanne and sister-in-law, Marcella Weiske.
Memorial Mass for Doc will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at 12:30 pm at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 228 Blossom St., Ripon, WI 54971. Reverend Robert A. Fictum will officiate.
A Celebration of Life for Doc will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, from 4 – 8:00 pm at Royal Ridges, 1 Westgate Dr., Ripon, WI 54971 with Full Military Honors starting at 3:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ripon College Athletic Department, P.O. Box 248 Ripon, WI 54971.
