Kurt Silber, age 94, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Ripon Medical Center.
Kurt was born December 13, 1918 in Hamburg, Germany. In his youth he was an avid kayaker and attended the 1936 Berlin Olympics. After being drafted into the German Luftwaffe he reached the post of Sergeant working in Intelligence Communication.
After the war he worked as a radio operator for the British Armed Forces. He married Ursula Ziegenfuss in 1949 and they had one child, Ronald. A lifelong Ham radio enthusiast, he operated under the call letters; DL3TG, WA9UVL and KB9MQ.
In 1960 the family emigrated to Ripon after meeting a fellow Ripon Ham radio operator. He worked in the micro slide industry and retired in 1984.
He is survived by his son, Ronald (Sue) Silber; grandson, Logan; adopted grandson, Corey Walker; special friend, Stan Brink and his cat, Mr. Peepers. Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Anna; wife, Ursula; sister, Elfriede and brother, Werner.
