Laurence Dahlke

Laurence J. Dahlke, 78, of Oshkosh, formerly of Eldorado, died Tuesday, September 2, 1997, at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Fond du Lac.

He was born May 21, 1919, in Pickett, a son to Fred and Alvenia (Miller) Dahlke. He attended school in Pickett. On May 12, 1941, he married Margaret Wagner. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945, in Company K of the 182nd Infantry Americal Division. During the battles of Leyte and Cebu in the Philippine Islands his regiment suffered heavy casualties. He was among seven survivors of Company K after the battle for the city of Cebu, a battle which lasted 22 days.

Mr. Dahlke was owner/operator of Dahlke Bros. Service Station, Eldorado; and Machine Assembler at Giddings and Lewis Co., Fond du Lac. He was a Charter Member of the Eldorado Volunteer Fire Dept, member of V.F.W. &
American Legion, and member of the Peace Lutheran Congregation in
Rosendale.

He is survived by 7 children, Richard Dahlke and his wife, Betty of Rosendale, Diane Michels and her husband, Pete of Fond du Lac, Dan Dahlke and his wife, Karen of Kohler, Debbie Leichtfuss and her husband, Roger of Van Dyne, Susan Dahlke and her husband, David Hansen of North Fond du Lac, Sandy Duel and her husband, Jeff of Eldorado and Sheryl Wray and her husband, Terry of Menasha; 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild. He is further survived by 1 brother, Fritz Dahlke and his wife, Helen of Waupun; 2 sisters, Ruth Malzhan and her husband, Vern of Rush Lake and Edith Whitlock and her husband, Dale of Rockford, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret on April 27, 1979, and I brother, Earl.

Funeral service for Laurence J. Dahlke will be Thursday, September 4, 1997, at 1:00 PM at the Peace Lutheran Church is Rosendale with the Rev. Craig Wolfgram officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in Rosendale Cemetery, Rosendale. Memorials in his name to Hospice in lieu of flowers please.
