Lawrence F. Berndt, age 89, of Waupun, WI, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at his home with his family by his side.
Lawrence was born on October 28, 1920, in Ripon, the son of Herman and Florence (Gatzke) Berndt. He graduated from Ripon High School and on September 27, 1941, Lawrence married Katherine Wrzinski. Lawrence served our country from 1942 – 1946 in WWII and was a mechanic at Ripon Knitting Works and McGregor Sporting. He was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon and an avid Brewers, Packers and golf fan.
Survivors include three children, Kenneth (Charlotte) Berndt of Raymore, MO, Barbara Crnkovich of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Mary (Bruce) Heidel of Fond du Lac, WI; seven grandchildren, Lisa Macy, Michelle Sexton, Jill Berndt, Mick and Cody Crnkovich, Sarajane Heidel and Melissa Renderman; six great-grandchildren, Katy and Mary Macy, Clare and Bridget Sexton, Zachary Renderman and Dillon Crnkovich. He is also survived by two brothers, Gilbert (Marion) Berndt and Melvin Berndt; and a sister, June (Leslie) Brown. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katherine; and brother, Earl.
Visitation for Lawrence Berndt will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010, from 4 – 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr. Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 10 – 11:00 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
Funeral Service for Lawrence Berndt will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 11:00 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Reverend Mark R. West will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Ripon. Memorials may be given to St. Agnes Hospice of Hope, 430 E. Division St. Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
The family expresses deep appreciation to Agnesian Hospice for their care, dedication and love. We also offer a special thank you to Charles Crnkovich for his love and tender care both before and during Dad’s illness.
