Lawrence W. “Olaf” Jess, 88, of 318—1/2 Watson St., Ripon, died Thursday, May 25, 1995, at his home.

He was born September 3, 1906, in Ripon, a son of the late Henry and Wilhemina Tetzlaff Jess. He attended Ripon High School and Ripon College, and had Lived in Ripon all of his Life.

On June 1, 1931, he married Bessie Florek. She passed away on October 18, 1994. “Olaf” was a partner & co-owner of the Jess & Florek Tavern in Ripon from 1935—1969. He continued working in the family business from 1969 to 1991. He served his country in the Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Ripon American Legion Post #43.

He is survived by 1 son, James Jess and a special friend, Verna Kelley; 1 granddaughter, Julie (Jeff) Hopp; 2 great—grandchildren, Jessica & Allyson Hopp; and 1 nephew, David (Susan) Florek, all of Ripon. He -is further survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Funeral services for the late Lawrence Jess will be held Saturday at 3 P.M. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. The Reverend Arthur Volkmann will officiate and interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon. Family and friends may call Saturday from 1 P.M. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
