Lena Mary Friend-Menke, age 94, of 850 Sunnyside Road, Green Lake, died July 10, 2002 at Green Lake Manor.
She was born November 7, 1907 in Audubon, IA to Hans and Christina (Neilsen) Andersen. She received her education at Iowa and worked as a house wife in her own home. On October 31, 1928 she married Rollen Friend and he passed away on July 17, 1959. She later married Edward Menke on October 19, 1963, and he passed away on November 18, 1988. Lena was a member of the Federated Church of Green Lake, Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion, and a past member of the Senior Citizens Club of Green Lake.
Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn (Edgar) Weiss; and one son, Kenneth (Barbara) Friend, both of Green Lake; three step daughters, Maxine (William) Kolkmeyer of Wauwatosa, WI, Donna (Myron) Gusse of Florida, and Karel (Dale) Buck of Indiana, 18 Grandchildren, 36 Great-Grandchildren, 13 Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands, one sister, seven brothers, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002 at the Federated Church in Green Lake with Pastor Neil Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at the Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. Memorials may be made out to the Federated Church of Green Lake.
