Leo OCallaghan, age 86, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Juliette Manor in Berlin.
Leo was born on Halloween of 1924, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Leo Francis and Alpha (Mac Knight) OCallaghan. He grew up in Los Angeles, visiting the Green Lake summer cottage, built by his grandmother, as often as possible with his parents and sisters. He later served in World War II, returning to graduate from Loyola University and then marry Helen Susie Connelly, of Oxnard California in 1950.
Like his parents, Leo and Susie raised their family in Los Angeles, but most summer vacations were spent packing five children, Aunt Barbara, Susies parents, and assorted pets into the family station wagon to return to Leos beloved Green Lake. Leo enjoyed close relations with his extended family who continue to be a large part of the Green Lake community. Leo loved sailing his E boat, teaching his children to sail, fish, water ski, and most of all, he loved to play golf with both family and dear friends. He and Susie chose to retire to Green Lake in 1982, and finally left California for good after the Northridge earthquake in 1994. They were active members of Our Lady of the Lake parish.
He is survived by his five children, Sheila (Harold) Pohlman, Pat (Leslie) OCallaghan, Molly (Dave) Bonenfant, Terry (Andrea) OCallaghan and Tom OCallaghan; his sister, Barbara OCallaghan and nine grandchildren; Bonnie, Vanessa, Rebecca, Colin, Meghan, Heidi, Torrie, Kacie, Mary and two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Leah. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susie, in 2005, and his sister, Sister Leo Francis in 2009.
