Leon Gitzel, age 89, of Ripon, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Michalene’s in Ripon, WI.
Leon was born on March 8, 1921, in Rosendale, WI, the son of Karl and Matilda (Schlaamp) Gitzel. He served our country in the United States Army and on September 23, 1944, Leon married Lillian Foster in Ripon. He worked on the line at Speed Queen for many years and attended New Life Community Church in Oshkosh, WI.
Survivors include three children, Kenneth (Susan) Gitzel of Ripon, Diane (James) Fidler of Albuquerque and David (Jennifer) Gitzel of Ripon; two brothers, Ralph Gitzel of Ripon and Daniel Gitzel of Waupun; one sister, Edna Derry of Waupun and many nieces and nephews. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Robert Gitzel and two sisters, Ida Gillen and Vivian Feder.
Visitation for Leon Gitzel will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010, from 10 – 11:00 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr. Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral Service for Leon Gitzel will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at 11:00 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Reverend Lee Van Scyoc will officiate. Interment will take place at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake, WI. A memorial is being established.
