LeRoy H. Theune, 75, died Wednesday morning, August 3, 2005 at Fountain View Care Center, Ripon, after a brief battle with brain cancer. He was born June 21, 1930 to Marie (Oosterwyck) and Harold Theune. LeRoy attended school in Brandon and Waupun, graduating in 1948. He served in the US Navy from 1951-1955. In 1997 he retired from Speed Queen/Alliance Laundry Systems after 42 years, then worked summers at Lawsonia Golf Course as a ranger-starter. LeRoy also worked part time at Ace Hardware in Ripon during his Speed Queen employment years.
He is survived by his wife Robyn; three daughters from his marriage to Dolly Theune: Sandra Pfaffenroth (Steve) of Oshkosh, Cindy Brooks (Dr. KC) of Lodi, and Penny Hammen (Peter) of West Bend. Grandchildren are Paul and Cassie Pfaffenroth, Kelsey, Katie and Macy Hammen. He is also survived by his sister, Marla (Ron) Haveman of Wayland, Michigan, and his brother, Loren (Carolyn) Theune of Rosendale, along with nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by Robyns sons, who held him in high regard and great love: Mark (Becky) Hayes of Morgantown, West Virginia, Mike (Shannon) Hayes of Houston, Texas, and Brian (Judith) Hayes of Houston, Texas. The Hayes grandchildren include Jeremy, Justin, Kyle, Shayna, Ian, Ayden, Ethan, and Kyleigh, who will all miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
LeRoy loved sports and participated in bowling and golf leagues for many years. For several years he was a participant in the Wednesday noon Mens Bible Study group. LeRoy was a quiet, gentle man, who did a lot of reading, enjoyed working with people, and loved his job at Lawsonia, being in the outdoors in that beautiful setting among golfers from all over the states. He was a faithful member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon, and he sang tenor in Immanuel church choir. He enjoyed singing in area church choirs throughout his life.
A memorial service for LeRoy H. Theune will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 401 E. Fond du Lac Street, Ripon with the Pastor Neil S. Wilson and Pastor Paul Nulton officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, August 5, 2005 from 4-7 p.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, and again at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. At his request he was cremated, and a private family inurnment will be at Oak Mound Cemetery in Alto at a later date. A memorial has been established.
