Leroy Roy Allen Yeomans, age 98, of Ripon, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Ripon Community Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Roy was born on February 2, 1925 in Chicago, IL, son of George and Minnie (Larson) Yeomans.
He attended high school in Ashland, WI, and furthered his education at Ripon College and National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, IL. Roy served our country in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 in the European Theater and was a proud veteran of WWII. He married Ruth Anne Beerheide on June 11, 1949 in Chicago, IL.
Ruth and Roy moved to Ripon, WI in 1950 after Roys graduation where Roy joined his father, Dr. George Yeomans, DC in practice located at 303 Watson Street in Ripon, WI. Roy then built a new clinic in 1964 at 315 Eureka Street where his son, Steve joined Roy in practice in 1979. In 1990, Steve and Roy moved the practice to 404 Eureka Street where Yeomans-Edinger Chiropractic, continues to serve the community with Steve and partner, Dr. Mark Edinger, DC. Roy retired in 1992 after 42 years in practice during which time he was very active in what is now, the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association.
Roy was passionate about the Ripon Rotary Club and was particularly proud of the scholarship program the Club provides to earning high school students each year. Last year, Roy was awarded 70 Years of Service Above Self on 2/7/22 as the Ripon Rotary Clubs longest-serving Rotarian. At that same meeting, the City of Ripon officially declared February 2nd as Roy Yeomans Day in honor of Roys birthday. More recently, on October, 19, 2022 Roy participated in the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, DC (mission 59) as the only WWII veteran on that flight with Steve as his guardian a truly memorable experience!
Roy was a long time member of the Ripon Gun Club, a sport his father introduced to him as a young boy. Hunting was one of Roys passions, which included multiple elk bow hunting trips out west with his sons. Golf was a year round passion of Roys as a long-time member at Tuscumbia in his younger years and Lawsonia for the last 25 years. He particularly enjoyed our many four generation outings over the past 15 years. In the winter, he enjoyed indoor golf at least once a week. A trip to Scotland in the fall of 2004 with Steve and dear friend, John Harmon celebrating Ruths life shortly after her passing was a highlight in his passion for golf along with 8 hole-in-ones! Roy was also very passionate about music and attended many performances cheering on many family members as well as attending many Ripon College Chamber and Jazz Series events, as well as many concerts at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake.
Most importantly, Roy had the unique ability to connect with people his patients, his friends, and especially his family his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and frankly, everyone in the room. He always took the time to allow others to express their feelings and thoughts before offering his insightful perspective. Roy had the ability to make you feel important and heard. Throughout his 98 years, he offered a fresh perspective on every conceivable topic. He had the gift of being everyones best friend and truly was!
Roy is survived by his sons, Marc (Jan) Yeomans of Richland, WA; Steve (Brigid) Yeomans of Green Lake, WI; and his adopted son Sui Chin/Oliver Chan (Christiane) of Aventura, FL; grandchildren, Adam (Nicole) Yeomans of Ripon, WI, Rachel Yeomans (Eric Mehl) of New York, NY and Abigail (Robert) Lynch of Downers Grove, IL; great grandchildren, Sam, Hannah, Kate and Maeve; and Roys very special friend, Rae Miller or Green Lake, WI.
