Leslie W. Endeward, age 72, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 1990, at home.
He was born November 19, 1917, in Lakefield, MN, the son of Otto and Minnie (Marquardt) Endeward; On November 15, 1952, he married Bernice Dorsch. Mr. Endeward was educated in Lakefield, MN and was the owner and operator of the Davis Hotel for the last 37 years.
He was in the US Army from 1942 until 1945. As First Sergeant he supervised duties and activities of approximately 200 personnel in Infantry Company. He directed handling and coordination of all administrative duties. He also supervised completion and preparation of strength reports, duty rosters, military correspondence and payroll vouchers. He maintained files on Army regulations, circulars, bulletins and operating procedures. He also was a German interpreter and interrogated prisoners of war. He was decorated with the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars. In addition he received two Overseas Service Bars, One Service Stripe and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a member of the Rainbow Division of the 222nd Infantry.
During his years in Ripon he served as Civil Defense Director. He ran the Ripon Taxi (Vets Cab) from 1956 to 1963, and Ripon Ambulance Service (Vets Ambulance) from 1956 to 1974. He was a member of the VFW Schultz-Klemp-Wentland Post #5278 and American Legion Brown-Parfitt Post #43.
Survivors include his wife, Bunnie; one daughter, Ranee Henderson of Lantana, FL; two grandchildren, Destry and Emily. He is also survived by one brother, Wayne of Ripon and one sister, Edith Menick of Ripon.
Visitation for Leslie will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 1990, from 11:30 - 1:30 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
Funeral service for Leslie will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 1990 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Reverend William Toelle will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Princeton. A memorial is being established in his name.
