Lester John Berger, age 88, passed away Thursday morning, July 31, 2003, at Maplecrest Manor in Ripon.
He was born May 2, 1915, in Ripon, the son of John Otto and Emma (Heschke) Berger. Lester served our country during WWII, from 1941-45, in the Army 32nd Field Division and spent 2-1/2 years in the South Pacific. He was a lifelong member of the Ripon VFW. On October 21, 1944, he married Marion Rose Pollack. Lester worked in the Press Department at Speed Queen until his retirement in 1980, and was a member of the U.S. Steel Workers. Lester also did masonry and carpenter work on the side. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon.
Survivors include his wife, Marion of Ripon; 2 children, Patricia Jane (James) Houwers of Sheboygan and Ronald L. Berger of Ripon; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and 1 sister, Margaret Chikasky. He was preceded in death by parents, and 1 brother, Eldor Berger.
Funeral service for Lester will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2003, at Immanuel United Methodist Church with Rev. David A. Busker officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon. Memorials may be given to the church in his name.
