Lester "Les" Pettack
July 28, 1925 — January 20, 2014
Lester “Les” Pettack, age 88, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
Lester was born July 28, 1925, in Waupun, in the Town of Trenton, the son of Edward and Lottie Pettack. He went to Waupun Public Schools and was baptized and confirmed at Pella Lutheran Church. On October 15, 1950, Lester married Audrey McDowell at the Union Congregational Church in Waupun. They farmed for a number of years on the east side of Waupun during which time they had three children. In 1961, they moved to Pilgrim Camp at Green Lake and were managers of the camp until 1974. Later Lester worked for 15 years at the Green Lake Public School as a janitor. During that time and to this day he was also a faithful janitor for The Federated Church of Green Lake.
Les started to play drums in Polka Bands at the age of 15 and continued to play in numerous bands all his life. In 1985, he learned to play the Tuba and was currently learning to play the Accordion. He also loved to mow lawns with his prize Yazoo Tractors.
Les is survived by his wife of 64 years, Audrey Pettack; daughter, Kay (Tom) Pettack-Bengel; two step-great-grandsons, Kris Ross and Shaun Wilson and family; two granddaughters, Virginia (Papa) Cerdan and Deanna (Terry) Lyons; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriella and Collin; son, Mark Pettack; several step-grandchildren including Ben Ewerdt and sons, Clayton and Bryce, Buddy and Amy Ewerdt, Ezekiel, Elijah, Emmalyhm, Brian Ewerdt, Hope and Lidya, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karen and Tony Bentz, Lynn and Pat McDowell, several nieces and nephews. Les was preceded in death by his parents, son, Byron; infant daughter, Judith; brother, Milton and his wife, Ruth and sister, Bernice and her husband, Wallace Pater.
Visitation for Les will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014, from 3 – 7:00 pm at The Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott St., Green Lake, WI 54941.
Funeral service for Les will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014, at 7:00 pm at The Federated Church of Green Lake in Green Lake, WI. Reverend Karen Gygax Rodriguez will officiate. A Graveside service will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. Memorials that are given will be used to purchase a new outdoor Nativity Scene for The Federated Church of Green Lake.
