Lorraine B. Garbacz, 91, passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on Tuesday, May 5th, 2015 just five months after her husband Peter Garbacz made his way to heaven.
She was born in Chicago on August 23rd, 1924 to parents Adolph and Mary Hoffman, growing up in Chicago and northern Wisconsin. She met her husband Peter in Chicago, followed him to boot camp at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where Peter proposed to her in December of 1942. They were married on January 17, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. Immediately after their wedding, Peter was deployed to fight in the Philippines under General Douglas McArthur. He served in combat from early 1943 through the end of WW II.
Lorraine was Mother to 5 children and one Son-in-Law. In 1998 Lorraine was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Garbacz, a Markesan resident, and on December 7, 2014 by her husband of 72 years Peter Garbacz. She is survived by 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, including her daughter Kathy Ginder (David Ginder), sons Ronald Garbacz, and Daniel Garbacz (Susan Heuer), and her very best friend and sister, Geraldine Grimm of Arpin, WI.
She was retired from Alliant Electric and United Airlines. In 1986 she and Peter moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Lorraine loved playing bingo at Arizona Charlies Casino, being with her children, supplying her friends and family with her famous Apple Pie, and cooking for the family (she was an expert). She also loved to travel and had visited most of the US States, the US Virgin Islands, Bahama, Mexico, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, The Most Serene Republic of San Marino, Italy, and many trips to Hawaii.
Visitation for Lorraine will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015, from 10 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 415 E. Fond du Lac St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Memorial Mass for Lorraine will be held on Saturday, July, 11, 2015, at 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ripon. Reverend Robert A. Fictum will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon.
Following the graveside service there will be a luncheon at CJs by the Wayside, W3201 Cork Rd., Ripon, WI 54971, 920.748.7726. Directions to CJs will be given at the service.
