Max D. Vancil, Lt. Col. (retired), age 77, of Ripon, passed away on Sunday February 25, 2007 at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon.
Max was born on August 5, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Vallie Buck and Amy A. (Glotfelty) Vancil. He graduated from Campbell Hill, IL High School and received a Bachelors Degree at Omaha, Nebraska. Max served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and was assigned to the Ripon College R.O.T.C. program as a Professor of Military Science. He worked as an insurance agent for New York Life in Ripon for 20 years after retiring from the Army. On November 26, 1950 he married Ella Mae Thies and she passed away on May 31, 1987, Max later married Helen M. Gay. Max lived in Ripon for over 40 years, and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a past member of Ripon Kiwanis Noon Club, and member of the American Legion and Ripon V.F.W. Schultz-Klemp-Wentland Post #5278.
Survivors include his wife Helen Gay-Vancil of Ripon, one son, Dr. Dale H. (Mary T.F.) Vancil of Lino Lakes, MN, one daughter, Babette (Joseph P. Jay) OConnor of Ripon, two granddaughters; Dr. Dawn (Dr. Kevin) Regner of Rochester, MN, and Kim (Nick) Rhoden of Ripon, one grandson; Joe OConnor of Oshkosh, three grandchildren; Molly, Maggie and Max Vancil of St. Paul, MN, and Ashley Vancil of Ripon, two great-grandchildren; Abraham and Ainsley. Helens children; Tom Gay of Oshkosh, Sally (Dan) Colacino of Viloa, WI and their daughter Emily. Max is further survived by two sisters; Virginia and Dixie. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ella Mae, one daughter Denise Lynn and sister Dilemma.
Visitation for Lt. Col. Max D. Vancil will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2007 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, and again on Friday from 10:00 and until the time of the service at Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon.
Funeral Services for Lt. Col. Max D. Vancil will be held on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon with Reverend Maurice A Schaus officiating. Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon. A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association, Milwaukee Office, 2323 N. Mayfair Rd. Suite 502, Wauwatosa, WI 53226. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the church following the service.
