Lynn Northrop, age 78, of Ripon, WI, died on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Ripon Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She had grown up in La Grange, a Chicago suburb, and greatly enjoyed the Brookfield Zoo as a youth. Lynn attended Connecticut College for Women and worked at Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago and A C Nielsen in Chicago and London before coming to Ripon in 1960. She married Douglas Northrop in 1956, and they raised a family of four in Ripon. Lynn was active in and an officer of the Parent Teachers Organization and Science Club. She was highly regarded for her Christmas brunches, her Christmas cookies, and her knitted Afghans. Generations of students were treated to the cookies and breads she supplied for Dougs classes at Ripon College. Lynn loved the many extended stays in London where the children and their spouses visited and all enjoyed the plays and concerts. She was an avid bridge player and cherished the fellowship as well as the competition of the bridge table. Lynn and Doug were friends of the First Congregational Church, UCC in Ripon.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Douglas Northrop of Ripon, WI; her sons, Christopher (Elizabeth) of Sanford, ME, Timothy (Amy) of Seattle, WA and Gregory (Larissa) of St. Paul, MN, and by her granddaughters and grandson: Quenna, Ilana, Ellison and Arlo. Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Esther (Hooper) Post; brother, Dirck Post and by her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Northrop.
