Marcella Ruth Bluemke Hoffmann
Mrs. Marcella Mars Hoffmann, 96, died July 10, 2003, at Markesan Resident Home. She was born June 27, 1907, in the village of Rosendale, the ninth of eleven children of August H. and Emma Schmidt Bluemke. She was educated there and after marriage to William J. Hoffmann of Marshfield, Wisconsin, lovingly reared five children. She lived her entire life in this area (Rosendale, Fox Lake, Green Lake, Ripon, and Markesan).
Growing up, she participated in the Rosendale Congregational Church and later in the Green Lake Federated Church. At Markesan she worshipped her Lord in the Resident Chapel.
After her marriage, Mrs. Hoffmann owned and operated the Penguin Restaurant in Fox Lake and later, for twenty-eight years, Mars helped her sister make the Heidel House in Green Lake a very successful restaurant. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Green Lake Professional Womens Business Association.
Mrs. Hoffmann was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Hoffmann-Griego; a granddaughter, Julie Grunseth; four brothers: Leon, Oscar, Herbert, and Hugo Bluemke; and five sisters: Elsie Morgan, Irma Salisbury, Gertrude Jackson, Beatrice Teckam, and Dorothy Jankowski. She is survived by three sons: James (Julia) Hoffmann, Atlanta, Georgia, William (Louise) Hoffmann, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and Harland (Sydney) Hoffmann, Langley, Washington; one daughter, Mary (Harry) Hinz, Arvada, Colorado; one sister, Lucille Heidel, Markesan, Wisconsin; and nieces and nephews. She was loved and cherished by ten surviving grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
She touched many lives with her gift of love and her many kindnesses, always ready with a helping hand to anyone in need. She is greatly missed, but is now safely in the hands of the Lord.
The private family service for Marcella was conducted July 11, 2003, by Pastor Charles R. Thompson, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, Wisconsin. Burial was at the Rosendale Cemetery in the Bluemke plot.
A memorial has been established in her name at Markesan Resident Home, P.O. Box 130, Markesan, WI 53946, in thanks for the loving care she received.
