Margaret R. Smoody, age 92, of Appleton, WI, passed away, Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Rennes Rehab Center in Appleton.
Margaret was born September 6, 1922, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of William and Alma (Fandwich) Keinert. She grew up in Milwaukee, WI, with eleven other brothers and sisters. Margaret excelled in school and graduated from Milwaukee Technical School when she was eighteen. When her best friend married, she stood up with John Smoody, the grooms brother. Marge and John were married six months later. World War II was raging, but somehow John was able to get permission to marry Marge and on June 7, 1944, the day after D-Day, they were married. He shipped out one week later. Marge and John were married 63 years until Johns death. Marge and John retired in their early 50s. They moved to a small farm in Ladysmith, WI, where they truly lived happily ever after. Marge continued to live on the farm after Johns passing. Marge was an active member in her church and enjoyed reading the Bible and teaching others about the good news of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her children, Dennis (Janice) Smoody of Waukesha, WI, and Diane (Henry) Corns of Haines City, FL; grandsons, Robert (Cari) Kerl of Appleton, WI, Matthew (Jenny) Smoody of Kenyon, MN, and Michael Smoody of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Albert (Betty) Keinert of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, Elsie Krane of Brookfield, WI, Ida Iwanski of Milwaukee, WI, and Bernice Leavitt, of Rocket City, FL; great granddaughters, Sydney Kerl and Macy Kerl both of Appleton, WI. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, John; twin granddaughters, Sara and Laura Smoody; brothers, Carl, Arnold, Robert, Ervin, Clarence, and Frederick Keinert and her sister, Caroline Neimic.
Visitation for Margaret R. Smoody will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, from 10 11:00 a.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral Service for Margaret R. Smoody will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Minister of Jehovahs Witnesses Earl Soviak officiating. Interment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in the City of Green Lake. A memorial is being established.
