Marjorie Marie Nelson, age 84, Ripon, passed away early Friday morning, April 16, 2004, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon.
She was born December 3, 1919, in Markesan, the daughter of Fred J. and Elsie A. (Beyers) Kahl. She graduated from Markesan High School and attended Oshkosh Normal School. Marjorie had been a private secretary at Speed Queen for 25 years. On April 14, 1951, she married Floyd Flat Top Nelson. They owned Flat Tops Tap in downtown Ripon, and after his death in 1974, she continued with the tavern until 1982. She lived at the Davis Hotel in Ripon from February 1983 to November 1990, at which time she moved to Parkview Care Center.
Survivors include sisters-in-law, Rachel (Reuben) Kahl and Florence (Nathan) Lawless; nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Bernice Endeward and Alice Rutkowski of Ripon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 1 sister, Ruth (Carl) Smith; and brother, Reuben Kahl.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon with Reverend Donald Deike officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon. A memorial has been established.
