Mark Mattson

January 19, 1953 — February 10, 1999

Mark Andrew Mattson, age 46, of Princeton, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999, when he was electrocuted on the job site at Markesan High School while working for C.R. Meyer Construction.

He was born January 19, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Andrew John and Miriam E. (Joki) Mattson, Jr. After graduating from Stevenson High School, he spent 2 years at Eastern University in Michigan. Mark was a master journeyman mason for 25 years, and was currently layout man and foreman for C.R. Meyer Construction. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.

On December 30, 1995, he married Mary Luker in Princeton. Mark and Mary spent weekends kayaking, canoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, horseback riding, and biking. Mark was an accomplished white water enthusiast and was looking forward to competing in the National Open Slalom Course to be held in July in Golden, Colorado. Mark and Mary enjoyed nature to the fullest. Mark’s enthusiasm for nature is evident in the beautiful home they built together. It is filled with touches of his creative hands from the hand carved leaves on the ceiling to the natural stone fireplace.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances (Luker) Mattson of Princeton; mother, Miriam E. Mattson of Marquette, Michigan; sister, Judy A. (Wayne) Johnson of Skandia, Michigan; his in-laws, Leon C. and Ann Marie Luker of Oshkosh; brothers and sister-in-laws, Leon (Jordis) Luker, James Luker, Jan Luker, Susan (Jeffrey) Thoe, Richard (Julie) Luker, Michael (Patricia) Luker, Ann Marie (Todd) Burns, and Christine (David) Krause. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, Anna, Katie & Sarah Johnson, Craig Andrew Mattson, Bonnie, Ama nda & McCayla Thoe, Meghan & Samantha Luker, Mallery, Mesa, Merrill & Mark Luker, Gabrielle Burns, Teal Krause, Jared & Cameron Luker, Garritt & Logan Luker. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew John Mattson, Jr; brother, Craig Charles Mattson; maternal grandparents, Charles and Wilhelmena Joki; and paternal grandfather, Andrew J. Mattson, Sr.

Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 1999, from 5 until 7 PM at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, 1999, at the funeral home with the Reverend James D. Mohr officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
