Marshall Mcdonough

Marshall John McDonough, age 86, of Green Lake, passed away at his home Sunday afternoon, May 3, 1998.
He was born on February 5, 1912, in Waukegan, IL to the late Lee and Sophia McDonough. Marsh graduated from St. John’s Military Academy, and attended Carleton College, Northfield, MN. Following college he and a fellow classmate toured extensively in Europe on bicycles. He started working for American Can in North Chicago, later becoming sales and service supervisor for Equipment Sales and Service of Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois. Subsequently, he assumed duties with American Can Corporate offices in New York City as National Equipment Sales Manager also working in Europe, England, and South America. Marsh and his wife Eleanor lived in Westport, CT. for many years and upon retiring in 1976, from American Can Co. then built their retirement home in Green Lake, WI. Long active in community affairs, he was Vice Chairman of the Green Lake Association and was particularly concerned with environmental matters. He was also a member of the Federated Church in Green Lake. Marsh was also active in the Ripon Rotary Club, having served as president and was awarded the coveted Paul Harris Award as well as the “Rotarian of the Year”. In 1990, he was awarded the Caestecker Award for his work in the environmental field, particularly in the area of non-paint pollution control. Marsh was president of the Waukegan School Board, Commodore of the Waukegan Yacht Club and on the east coast was an active member of the New York Sales Executive Club. He a member of the Waukegan Masonic Lodge #78 and Ripon-Green Lake-Markesan Lodge #95 and belonged to ZOR Shrine Temple of Wisconsin.
Survivors include two daughters Martha Lynn Biederman of Indian Wells, CA and Lee Eleanor McDonough of Columbus, OH; grandchildren Sarah Mcintosh of Palm Desert, CA, Kathleen Whippie of Boise, ID and Scott Biederman of San Diego, CA., and great grandchildren Taylor Wipple, Travis Whipple, Emily Whipple, and Ryan Mcintosh. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor in 1989.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 7, 1998, at 7:00 PM at the Federated Church in
Green Lake with the Rev. Karen Gygax Rodriguez officiating, Rev. Carl Stubenvoll assisting. Friends
may call on Wednesday at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, with a
Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. lnurnment will be in the Presbyterian Church columbarium in
Waukegan, IL where Marsh and Eleanor were married, as well as their daughter Martha.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
