Martha Jane Cumblad

Martha Jane Cumblad, age 94, of Markesan, WI, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Markesan Resident Home with her family by her side.
Martha was born May 9, 1920, in Monmouth IL, the daughter of John and Minnie (Hansen) Whitman. She graduated from Alexis High School and went on to further her education, earning her BS from the University of Iowa and subsequently graduated from the University of Iowa School of Nursing. In 1948, Martha married Fredrick A. Cumblad. She worked at the University of Minnesota and Texas Hospitals as an RN and also at Delnor Hospital in St. Charles, IL. Martha was an RN for over 40 years. She was an avid gardener, bird watcher, and was known to all as a kind, gentle, and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon.
Survivors include her children, Kent (Beth) Cumblad of Columbus, WI, Keith (Carla) Cumblad of St. Charles, IL and Karl (Karen) Cumblad of Waukesha, WI; eight grandchildren, Cari (Shawn) Coyle of Columbus, WI, Jon Cumblad of Chicago, IL, Nick Cumblad of Oregon, WI, Matt Cumblad of Oregon, WI, Alex Cumblad of St. Charles, IL, Austin (Liz) Cumblad of Minneapolis, MN, Ethan Cumblad of Oregon, WI, Krista Cumblad of Madison, WI and three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Samuel Zittel of Columbus, WI and Makenna Cumblad of Lake Mills, WI and sister and brother-in-law, Melicent and Roger Hansen of Rockford, IL. She was further survived by many nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred; son, Paul Cumblad; grandson, Eric Cumblad and sisters, Melba Peterson and Marilyn Edstrom.
Visitation for Martha will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014, from 10 – 11:00 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 430 Griswold St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Memorial service for Martha will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014, at 11:00 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. Reverend Clay R. Salmela will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Markesan Resident Home, Inc., 1130 North Margaret St., Markesan, WI 53946.
