Marvin Alvin Stark

Marvin Alvin Stark, age 85, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon surrounded by family.

Marvin was born December 1, 1929, in the Town of Brooklyn, WI, the son of Emil and Alma (Retzlaff) Stark. He graduated from Ripon High School in 1947 and then married Marilyn Jones at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in 1951. Marvin proudly served his country in Korea during the war with the 5th Regimental Combat Team earning the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal with two battle stars, and the United Nations Korean Service Medal. Marvin was a lifelong member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ. He served as a member of the Church Council and Church Treasurer for 18 years and was a member of the Senior Choir for over 30 years. Marvin was the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 737 for 27 years and in that time, 65 of his scouts attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was awarded the National Eagle Scout Association Scoutmasters award and the Silver Beaver. Marvin was a 57 year active member of the Ripon Lions Club and had served terms as President and Treasurer. For Marvin’s dedication he was given the Birch Sturm Fellowship. He also served his community as an Alderman for eight years and later Marvin was appointed to several city committees.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Stark of Ripon, WI; children, Deborah Stark of Ripon, WI, Michael (Sherri) Stark of Middleton, WI, Susan (Roemy) Rahn and Elizabeth (Fred) Handrich all of Ripon, WI; five grandchildren, Jennifer Stark, Cindy Rahn, Tyler (Kim) Rahn, Ryan Stark and David Stark; great grandchildren, Jackson Rahn and Myla Rahn; sisters Marilyn (Bruce) Patrick of Waupun, WI, and Verna (H. Roger) Herreid of Coppell, TX, and sister in-law, Lillian Stark of Oshkosh, WI. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Marvin is preceded in death by his father and mother, Emil and Alma Stark and his brother Harold Stark.

Visitation for Marvin Alvin Stark will be held Friday, May 8, 2015, from 4 – 7:00 p.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 10 – 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St., Ripon, WI 54971.

Funeral Service for Marvin Alvin Stark will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon. Reverend Dr. Kevin P. Mundell will officiate. Full Military Honors will follow Funeral Service. A memorial is being established.
