Marvin Vollbrecht

February 21, 1920 — August 15, 2013

Former Ripon resident, Marvin Arnold Vollbrecht, age 93, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Tamarack Place Assisted Living in Menomonee Falls, WI.

Marvin was born February 21, 1920, the first child of Fred and Elsie (Jahnke) Vollbrecht on a farm north of Rosendale. The family moved to a farm southwest of Ripon when he was four years old. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. Marvin attended the one room Holmes School for eight years and graduated from Ripon High School. On October 14, 1944, he married Shirley Haase (daughter of one of the several farmers he worked for) and took over his parents farm. They retired from farming in 2005, and moved to an apartment in Ripon. Due to failing health and the decision to be near family they moved to Menomonee Falls in April of 2013. Marvin had served on the council and Board of Education at Grace Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac County Farm Bureau Board and Holmes School Board. He was very interested in sports especially the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He had played on the Ripon Robin’s Baseball and Lapers All-Star Basketball teams in the fifties. He won 1st place in the Ripon City Bowling Tournament in 1959 and got a hole in one in 1996 at a church sponsored event having taken up golf after the age of 80.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of 68 years, Menomonee Falls, WI; sons, Gary (Patty) of Fairfield, CA; Alan (Kathy) Moorpark, CA; Bruce (Julie) Menomonee Falls, WI; daughter, Dale (Richard) Suggs, West Conway, AR; grandchildren, Kevin (Melanie, son Tyler) Carrie Vollbrecht (fiancé Al Forbes, son Jayden), Sam (Felisha, daughter Caelynn) Suggs, Jamieson Vollbrecht, Sara (Jayme) Lewis, Rebecca Vollbrecht (fiancé Sean McGuire), Brian Vollbrecht, Matthew McNeil, Kelli McNeil; step grandchildren, Bridget (John, children Ava and Owen) Fredrickson, Christina (David, daughters Stella and Grace) Meitzenmacher, Carl, Katie and Kyle Pattison; sister-in-laws, Ruby Vollbrecht, Florence Haase, and Hazel; brother-in-law, Alfred “Buzz” Radke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Debbie McNeil; brothers, Carlyle and Walter Vollbrecht; sister, Merlyn Radke; brothers-in-law, Alfred, George, Harvey Hasse, and Carl Willenganz; sisters-in-law, Mildred, Marion, and Emma Haase.

Visitation for Marvin Vollbrecht will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2013 from 9:00- 11:00 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 430 W. Griswold St., Ripon, WI 54971.

Funeral Service for Marvin Vollbrecht will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 11:00 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Reverend Clay R. Salmela will officiate. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery in the Village of Brandon. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Lutheran Social Concerns Committee, 430 W.
