Mary Alice Wilkinson, age 94, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Pleasant Park Place in Ripon.
Mary Alice was born September 20, 1921, in Beloit, the daughter of Frank and Mae (Thoresen) Klites. She was graduated from East Riverside High School in Milwaukee, completed two years at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and then went on to complete business school. After serving as a volunteer for the war effort, Mary Alice enlisted in the United States Navy (WAVES) continuing to serve our country from July 1944 to September 1945. On May 12, 1945, Mary Alice married Robert (Bob) Wilkinson in New London, CT. From 1950 to 1952, she worked at AO Smith Corporation in Milwaukee and held down the home front while Bob served on the frontlines in the Korean Conflict. Over the years, Mary Alice and Bob made many friends across the county as they lived in New York, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Florida, and Wisconsin. They were always active in their churches, and they loved to square dance. Mary Alice, who sang in church choirs wherever they lived, was known for her beautiful voice. She was a homemaker, a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, and a member of the Ripon Education Club.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care and support that Mary Alice received from the caregivers of Maplecrest Home Care, Pleasant Park Place, and Agnesian Hospice Hope.
Survivors include her children, Judith (William) Neill and Debra (Tom) Konecny of Ripon, WI; grandsons, Robert Neill of New York City, New York, Joshua Neill of Hollywood, CA, Daniel (Kolleen) Konecny of Denver, CO, and Benjamin (Caitlin) Konecny of Greeley, CO; cousin, Carl (Fran) Nelson; three nephews, Alan, Tom, and Peter Korpady. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mae; husband, Robert; and sister, Betty Jean (Edward) Korpady.
Visitation and a celebration of life service for Mary Alice Wilkinson will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Immanuel Methodist Church in Ripon, WI with visitation from 3:00 4:00 and the service at 4:15 followed by an informal gathering. Inurnment with full military honors will be held at a later date at Garden of the Cross Cemetery in Ripon. Memorial contributions for Mary Alice may be made to the Ripon Public Library, 120 Jefferson Street, Ripon WI 54971.
