Mary Ellen Roth, 80, of Green Lake, died Sunday night, May 23rd, 2010, with her family at her side.
She was born March 2nd, 1930, in Green Lake, WI to August and Phoebe (Spudick) Kopplin. Mary graduated from Green Lake High School and later from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh with a degree in Education. She married Edward V. Roth on August 30th, 1948. Mary taught Special Education at Washington School in Berlin, WI, and was also an owner/operator of Oakwood Lodge in Green Lake, WI, from 1966 to 1985. Mary was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the Green Lake Willis-Chapel Legion Post #306. She was also an active volunteer with the Tri-County Humane Society and Ripon Medical Center. In her free time she enjoyed playing tennis, daily walks with her good friend Liz, and bowling.
She is survived by two sons, Edward (Deborah) Roth of Plymouth, MN, and Greg (Patty) Roth of Green Lake; one daughter, Jennifer (Gary) Simon of DeForest; nine grandchildren, Aaron (Nikki) Roth of Glenview, IL, Carl Roth (fiancé, Leigh) of Chicago, IL, Rachael (Pepe Jon) Chavez of Plymouth, MN, Michael (Ashley) of Chicago, IL, Emily (Erik) Johnson of Green Lake, Melissa (Jason) Sonntag of Green Lake, Lesley Roth of San Diego, CA, Olivia and William Simon of DeForest; nine great grandchildren, Laiken, Noelle, and Ashton Roth of Glenview, IL, Arabella, Arria, and Amira Chavez of Plymouth, MN, Anna Johnson of Green Lake, and Grace and Samuel Sonntag of Green Lake, sister Arlene (Teeter) Allen of Green Lake, brother-in-law Robert (Janet) Roth of Minneapolis, MN, daughter-at-heart Brook (Trenbeth) Bailey of Oceanside, CA, Uncle Norbert Lenz of Green Lake, and many nieces and nephews. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Edward V. Roth.
Visitation for Mary Ellen Roth will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010, from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr. Ripon, WI 54971, and again on Friday, May 28, 2010, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 530 Ruth Street, Green Lake, WI 54941.
Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ellen Roth will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake, with Father Philip Krogman officiating. Interment will follow in Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake. A memorial is being established.
Mary was most generous of her time and talents. She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed by many.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hearts of Green Lake and St. Agnes Hospice Hope of Green Lake for all their care and support.
